About Amber
Supporting and protecting women and children
Established in 1995, Amber is a domestic abuse service for women and children living in Kilkenny and Carlow.
We provide the following services to all women, with or without children, living in Kilkenny and Carlow who are currently, or have in the past, experienced any form of domestic violence and abuse/ coercive control.
- 24/7 confidential Helpline
- 24/7 emergency refuge accommodation
- 121 support, information and advocacy, both at the refuge and in the community via our Outreach team
- Pre and post court support and accompaniment
- Counselling
- Parenting Support, for Mothers parenting during or after an abusive relationship
- Supports for children impacted by domestic violence and abuse
- Group Support Programmes, for women who are or have in the past experienced any form of domestic violence and abuse

- To empower all women and their children to live abuse-free lives.
- To provide safe, supportive, client-centred and inclusive services to address the impacts of Domestic Violence and Abuse through refuge and community responses.
Our Vision – women and children living safely
Our vision ‘is for a society that recognises domestic violence and abuse as a serious crime and recognises the consequences of domestic violence and abuse for those impacted. A society where the root causes of domestic violence and abuse, the unequal power relations between men and women, are addressed and eliminated. A society, which holds male perpetrators responsible for their crimes, while supporting men who want to change. Where families are nurtured and where women and children live in an inclusive and safe society’.
