At Amber, we understand that the emotional and psychological impact of domestic abuse can be overwhelming. We provide a free and confidential crisis counselling service for women experiencing distress or trauma related to domestic violence and abuse/ coercive control.
Professional and Confidential Support
We offer 4 – 6 free crisis counselling sessions to women living in Carlow or Kilkenny.
Crisis Counselling can help support your understanding of the impacts of domestic abuse trauma and provide you with tools to regulate and relieve the impacts of living with a controlling and abusive person.

Ambers Five Principles of Crisis Counselling
EMOTIONAL SAFETY FIRST
Emotional safety is a priority when supporting women who have been subjected to violence and abuse within an intimate relationship. It involves acceptance without judgement and can enable calming of the nervous system, trust to communicate openly and motivate help-seeking.
FOCUS ON THE PRESENT
The focus is on resourcing the client on coping with the issues that are currently a source of emotional and mental distress to the client and inhibiting her capacity to act in her own interest.
EMOTIONAL STABILISATION
Emotional stabilization leads to reconnecting with cognitive capacity to make sense of a women’s circumstances and to consider an take actions that meet her goals.
EMPOWER
To empower involves collaborating with the client to reclaim her rights and capacity to make and enact decisions in her own best interests.
CONNECTION TO RESOURCES
The rang of Amber services represents a holistic response to the needs of women and children impacted by DVA. Connecting to resources addresses the isolation and undermining of rights and autonomy and supports progress on client lef goals. The therapist can explain the services provided by Amber where appropriate and relevant to the clients needs.
